Lucky Pillow Case Closeup of Lucky pillow Cuddles with Lucky's pillow and birthday balloons
Miranti commissioned this quilted portrait pillow of her beloved Lucky, who passed away 2/13/2008, less than two months from his 14th birthday. She plans to place this pillow on the chaise at the foot of her bed, where Lucky loved to relax, and where he passed away in his sleep. Miranti is going to untie the ribbon on this neck and hang Lucky's tag from it. She and her Maltese puppy, Cuddles, miss Lucky so much.
Dimensions - 18" square

"Jan, I LOVE Lucky's pillow. You were right, it is better in person. I got it on time for his birthday...I missed the mailman yesterday...so we got it today, on Lucky's birthday. I am sending you photos of Cuddles (Lucky's "little brother") sitting on the chaise next to Lucky's pillow. I tied Lucky's dog tag on the ribbon and it looks perfect! Today, we celebrated Lucky's birthday by sending off to the sky a balloon from each of us to Lucky in heaven. It was a wonderful day of remembrance. Thanks so much for holding my hand through the process and for creating a beautiful momento of his memory. You have caught Lucky's personality and the portrait looks just like him (it is amazing that you are able to do this by sewing fabric)...I gave him a great big hug...and hugs to you too. Thanks again...you may hear from me again for another pillow creation..." - Miranti

Bubba, Kresha and Ken on the love seat
Ken, Bubba and Kresha relaxing on the Love Seat. Jan actually went to Ken's home and took the photos from which she worked. Bubba is a 102 pound lovebug of a Pit Bull, Kresha is an extremely senior feline citizen who enjoys napping with his "boys". Ken and his wife Jennifer adopted Bubba from Pittie Love Rescue in Massachusetts. Jan and her husband, Mark, actually adopted their Lola from the same hardworking rescue group!! Small world.

Kresha died in her sleep at the age of 20 on Sat. 6/20/09. She had a long, wonderful life with Jennifer, Ken and Bubba and they will all miss her so. She was such a fighter, but just became too tired.

Nellie on the cover of the first Bark magazine issue Nellie's quilted wall hanging
Nellie was the cover dog of the first issue of Bark, a fantastic magazine Jan loves and in which she has advertised. When she read that Nellie died last July, Jan decided she wanted to create this tribute to her, the Bark Cover Girl and beloved pet of Cameron and Claudia, founders of The Bark.

Your work is so special, we feel honored to have this treasure hang on our wall in Nellie's honor. Both Claudia and I are thrilled with your generosity." - Cameron and Claudia

Pittie Angel artwork
This is the artwork Jan used to create her Memorial Dog Quilt. Original artwork by Auralea Sauerberg, Canada.

Here is a picture of Jan with her Pit Bull, Kilo, alongside her Memorial Dog Quilt

Memorial Dog Quilt Closeup of the Memorial Dog Quilt Face Closeup of the face and words on the Memorial Dog Quilt
Jan made this memorial dog quilt based on an image e-mailed from another pit bull mom. She hand-quilted stars of different sizes onto the blue night sky background fabric in silver glitter thread, to coordinate with the small silver stars imprinted on the fabric. She also hand quilted in blue glitter thread (can't be seen from this photo) stars and hearts up and down the side borders, and the wording "Born Innocent" across the top border and the wording "Died Still Trusting Us" across the bottom border.
You can visibly see the appliqued fabric wording in upper and lower arcs above and below the angel dog; "In Memory of All Dogs" "Killed By Cruelty and Fear". This was inspired by the recent horrific news reports on the Atlanta Pit Bull fighting operation run from the home of a well-known football player.

The artist who drew the artwork on which Jan based this quilt, found Jan via her web site, and loves the quilt. The dog in the drawing/quilt, is her late American Pit Bull Terrier Zeus. Her name is Ayralea Sauerberg and she lives in Canada. She works on behalf of Pit Bull education and rescue. She says she has a pit bull sized hole in her heart, from the loss of her best friend, Zeus. She has a new pittie best friend named Max. Jan is SO very happy they found each other, albeit by accident!

Pit bull portrait
This little black and white pittie portrait was purchased by a young girl at Pet Rock 2007. She was so excited, as it looks JUST like her dog, Brisco.
